Clondaw Westie Wins at Fontwell!

On Saturday 17th March we made our way to Fontwell Park racecourse with a fit Clondaw Westie ready to run in the Handicap Chase. The trainer was keen to run him again quickly after his mishap at Wincanton as he loves the heavy ground. With Aidan at another meeting we had David Bass aboard who has ridden many winners for us over the years, so felt confident for a good run. Setting off as hot favourite we were hoping to see the gelding show his jumping form on the course as he does at home. He tracked the leaders for the first circuit and a half, before taking up the lead at the bottom bend heading for home, and putting the race to bed. He jumped superbly throughout, with David giving an encouraging ride, filling the horse with confidence. He idled slightly up the run in, showing to be a little green, but far from tired. The step back in distance suited the horse, with Westie always looking happy and comfortable. The owners, Doreen and Paul Caudwell, were delighted with his performance; this victory making it 2 winners at Fontwell that they've owned ridden by David! We are very excited about this nice horse, and happy that he was able to show he is the horse we have always thought him to be. We will look to run him again soon before the ground dries up.

Unfortunately another weekend of point-to-pointing was lost due to the weather (snow in March?!) but fingers are firmly crossed for a busy weekend ahead with plenty of racing!

Happy jockey & happy owners!
